THE BEST OF READY-TO-WEAR FALL/WINTER 2012

Fashion is growing exponentially unlike ever before and that being said, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to keep up with the latest designers and trends, as ever part of the globe has something unique, different and electrifying to offer, every season. I’ve decided to focus this post on 7 Ready-to-Wear (RTW) designers from each of the 4 fashion capitals – New York, Milan, London and Paris – that have distinctly stood out in terms of their individuality, concepts, innovation and approaches to design, undoubtedly making them the best fashion currently has to offer and the biggest trend setters of fall/winter 2012.

Ready-to-Wear Fall/Winter 2012/13 is much more subdued than the latter seasons but very enthralling in its own right, as designers seem to be bringing women in to a new, much more dynamic light – that of power, darkness, primitivity and control, but with a whimsical twist of humour. Minimalism, empowerment, film noir, duality, versatility and illusion sum up majority of the season, while trends such as androgyny, Hollywood Glamour and fetishism still seem to stay static, but with a much more fresher, exciting appeal. Designers seem to be paying a lot more attention to their customer, with explicit regard given to detail, comfort, wearability, functionality and practicality. The fabrics of the season command confidence and protection, with fur being one of the most prominent. Leather, floral motifs & prints, bling, stripes, artsy prints, tweeds, wool, encrusted appliqué, embroidery on sheers and see-through textures are gracefully combined with various oriental, ethnic and African influences; and extreme fabric manipulations, creating a very surrealistic mood. Structured shapes, precise cut, tailoring, cocoon & square shoulders, exaggerated volumes and hints of disproportionism define the silhouette, with bold metallic hardware and chunky gold appliqué/accessories being a significant part of several looks. Black seems to be back with a BANG! Earthy tones such as toffee brown, olive-green, camel, tangerine, oak and amethyst seem to be done brilliantly by certain designers, while greys, teals, corals, greens and white make up the rest of the colour palette, inclusive of pastels and colour blocking.
